Development of Tools for the Rural Regional Network of Picardie
Summary
EAFRD support was used for the development of a collaborative web based tool for the regional rural network of Picardie.
Background
During the previous phase of the regional rural network of Picardie local actors interviewed strongly expressed the need to get to know each other better and work together. The rural network would also have a transversal approach, beyond existing networks. Consequently the steering committee decided to have a tool to improve the visibility of actors and facilitate the exchange of information, resources and skills.
Objective
The project aimed to create an arena for actors involved in rural development projects in Picardie. The idea was that when the number of members who are active increases, their contribution for creation of an essential place to promote their projects/actions would be greater. Each active member made available to others ideas and resources. These individual initiatives contributed to the creation of a space for entertainment/information/resources.
Main activities
The main activity of the project was the creation of an on-line database where actors provided information on their skills, the mission and strategy of their structures and objectives and results of their projects. A search engine by theme and territory was developed. Members were provided with the opportunity to complete a project and even contribute to a project by providing ideas and resources to the project promoter. The platform gave the members the opportunity to communicate.
Results & Benefits
185 person and 178 project registrations were recorded. Visitors to the site have been making numerous visits. This confirmed the interest of actors for the discovery of structures or projects operating around them. The site has been better ranked on search engines, which provided better visibility of information available on the site.
Lessons learnt
The regional rural network of Picardie offers actors a tool that enables them to facilitate the collection of their projects. In this bottom-up and collaborative approach, it is the actors who are both engines and sources of knowledge and expertise. The tool is only a catalyst. Communication and support are necessary for the tool to be embraced by the stakeholders and for the project's success.
