Background

The Centro region in Portugal is rich in raw materials and the ceramic industry traditionally plays a pivotal role. In correspondence with the natural conditions, there is a also a significant number of companies operating in this sector.

Objective

The objective of the project was to create conditions for increasing production and quality of ceramic products, in particular facilities for maintenance of the related machinery.

Main activities

The main activities consisted in creation of working space, modernisation and purchase of new equipment, as well as improving management and application of IT tools for business purposes. Furthermore, attention was paid to improving management practices and linkages within the regional economy by creating direct connections (customer-supplier) between the companies in the region.

Results & Benefits

Investment in new equipment and technologies improved the regional ceramics sector's productivity. Development of the links between the entities involved enhanced regional-level industry cohesion.
