House Care Net-Work in Tielt Region

Summary

Creating synergies and cooperation between the different service providers in the Tielt region with regards to the setting up of facilities and services for people with special needs in the area.

Background

The lack of cooperation between different service providers in rural areas is an increasing trend in rural areas whereas certain resources and facilities are not readily available like in urban areas. This project aims at creating the ideal conditions to achieve three fundamental rights, with a specific attention to the needs of people with special needs in such areas and with a focus provide accessible services and social integration.

Objective

The project intends to: improve the proximity and accessibility of services for citizens in rural areas; to create a strong network in the Tielt region by stimulating cooperation for different services and target groups and by making the best use of participants’ expertise. The focus of this project is to offer persons with special needs an efficient alternative for their needs.

Main activities

The main activities implemented to achieve the objectives of the project are: to improve coordination among the social companies involved in the project (four companies active in the region) and between them and local authorities and citizens; to create a network between public and private sectors; to provide housing assistance in collaboration with the local governments, the Social Services and the Social Homes organisations.

Results & Benefits

The project is still on-going however benefits such as the creation of a real network between the public and private sector and better coordination amongst participants has already been achieved. Expected results are: strengthening social cohesion through the expansion of care networks; increasing the relevance of volunteer work; ensuring housing security for target groups; prompt identification of individual and collective needs; setting-up a support forum for actors involved in the project.

Lessons learnt

The combination of knowledge, expertise and capacities of the four organisations involved in the project has proven to be an important added value for the realisation of the project. In addition it has also stimulated an ongoing cooperation with local authorities and the people benefitting directly from this initiative.
