Background

Local products are very important for both partners’ regions. They contribute to define the cultural identity of the area and very often become a flagship to promote the region. Promoting local products and revitalising old professions contributes to boost tourism and enhance the income for local communities. For this reasons partners decided to cooperate in order to exchange experiences and find innovative ways to better promote their territories, using local potential.

Common Objectives

The main objectives of the project were to: i) preserve and promote better use of the natural and cultural attractions of the regions; ii) support local products as an important tourist resource for both regions; iii) find innovative ways to promote cultural heritage and local products; iv) support the preparation of specific tourist packets to be offered to visitors.

Main Joint Activities

The main activities of the projects were: i) identification of the products that better represent the regions; iii) preparation of specific promotional material, such as signs and informative boards with a map that illustrates the territories of both LAGs and the places of interest of the “Polish and Swedish Trail of Local Products”; iv) preparation of packets for tourists proposing activities to be done and places of interest to be visited in the area.

Results and Transferability

The project is still on-going, but some results have been already achieved, in particular: i) 5 products related to each area were identified as those that better represent the natural and cultural values of the regions; ii) 8 sets of informative boards were prepared and installed; iii) 1,000 copies of a brochure describing the Polish and Swedish Trail of Local Product (in EN, PL and SE) were prepared; iv) 1,000 copies Trail map were printed; iv) specific packets for tourist were prepared.

Lessons learnt

The project has not finished yet, however cooperation with a foreign LAG and promotion of local culture and products has proved to be a succesfull strategy to support local tourism and the overall local economy.
