EAFRD support assisted farmer Stanislav Tomaševskij in setting up a business addressing the need for renting digging services in the Jokūbonių village where excavation works for water supply and sewerage and building foundations are in great demand.

Pond digging is currently in demand in Jokūbonių as many of the new homestead owners who could not settle near water began to dig ponds and use the pond water for entertainment and geothermal heating. Moreover, in this area private rural households, owners of rural tourism places, agricultural companies and farmers face problems with renting the equipment to dig trenches for water supply, sewerage and building foundations.

The project aimed to diversify agricultural activities and offer new services that are not related to agriculture.

Stanislav Tomaševskij provided help to other farmers, rural residents, owners of rural tourism places and other individuals to dig and clean ponds and manage a wide variety of other digging jobs.

Some parts of the planned investment had to be taken out and consequently the forecasted profit was not reached, as there was a decrease in the number of orders. According to Mr Tomaševskij, the benefits include the creation of permanent jobs and income improvement.

Mr Tomaševskij did not receive the financial support from the National Paying Agency within the contractual timeframe and as he could not cover his commitments he had to pay a fine of more than €1,000. In order to avoid such situations the recipient suggests signing long-term contracts with a bank.
