    Background

This project was developed by Pallatium Sport, a company founded in a rural area and committed to sustainable development focused on new areas of production. It chose to create new products and brands and to open up to a new client niche: sports goods and machinery for bioparks. At the same time, it focused on then distribution of brands already present on the international market.

    Objective

The main objective of the project is the creation and start-up of a factory for the production and sale of own-brand sporting goods, as well as the manufacturing of machines for bioparks, while utilising its structure for the sale and distribution of other internationally renowned brands. It also aims to benefit from the lack of current production of goods and machinery for bioparks and to sell its products via e-commerce.

    Main activities

Production and reuse of sporting material, use of products that have EU-certified production and packaging.

    Results & Benefits

Results of the project were:i) Export of products within and outside of the EU; ii) creation of regional employment, particularly for young people including less skilled workers who have previously had difficulty finding employment; iii) diversification of local production; iv) demonstration of the viability of developing large exporting and innovative business projects in the rural environment; v) improvement in the business environment, resulting in the emergence of new initiatives.

    Lessons learnt

    i) Effective management of financial resources and of the project site, with particular focus on the dimensions and height of the installation. ii) Establishing the surface area and obtaining permits for the height of the installation (15 m of open space) were both challenging. iii) It is essential to know your products’ target market, given their unique characteristics and specifications.
