EAFRD support has provided a boost to the social services available for residents of a rural community in Poland through the construction of new premises for use by rural community groups in Dąbrówka.

Rural depopulation pressures present major challenges for rural Europe and parts of rural Poland have been particularly badly affected by outmigration of young people. This creates problems for rural businesses looking for skilled employees and fewer people make community services like shops, schools, healthcare less viable. Improving the quality of rural community services can help counter the effects of depopulation.

This project aimed to improve the availability of local services in Dąbrówka as a way to help make the local area a more attractive place to live and work. The project also aimed to help preserve the traditions and customs, and socio-cultural needs of the rural population.

A new community building was funded by the project. This building is providing youth development services as well as care activities for the local community. It is also being used as recreation resource by amateur artisans. In addition, the project provides information about local public and voluntary sector operations.

The project has benefited about 550 local residents, and can also be used residents of neighbouring areas. Local community members and young people are the main beneficiaries. These are now able to enjoy quality cultural, educational and sports activities – which contribute to improving quality of life and act in part as an incentive to counter depopulation pressures.

Support can be used to improve the quality of life in rural areas. This helps to make the countryside a more attractive place to live, work and visit.
