EAFRD funds were utilised by Martti Mustonen for the establishment of his company which provides a variety of property maintenance services to its mainly elderly clients.

Martti who studied theology and worked as a stand-in teacher for a couple of decades after working to a relative’s property maintenance company decided to establish his own business. The business idea and prospects of the future company began to take concrete shape in an entrepreneurship course arranged by the Employment and Economic Development Office.

The objective of the project was to assist Martti to establish his own business.

Employing Martti as the sole employee of his company was the main activity for the achievement of the project objective.

Martti through the funding managed to provide employment for himself, and to start without risking too much his all kind of property maintenance work from lawn-mowing to sauna heating. Most of his clients were elderly people and the services provided helped them cope at home. An example of a small service provided to make a client’s everyday life easier is a modification to a fire alarm that enables householders to change its battery without having to reach up to the ceiling.

Start-up grants give new businesses a softer landing. The Finnish society offers good conditions for entrepreneurship. Success or failure then depends on the entrepreneur’s attitude. The best thing in entrepreneurship is the possibility to choose your own working hours. “Everyone can find his own limits”.
