Surface water restoration
The Institute is looking for partners for exchanging information and good practices in water and nutrient discharge control. The main problem in thier systems (lakes in the area) is the great proportion of yearly nutrient discharge coming in the autumn and winter seasons, when traditional means for nutrient control (eg. ponds, wetlands) do not work properly. Rainy winters are becoming more common in Finland due to climate change and this problem is getting more acute in the future.
Pyhäjärvi Institute is a local center of further education, development & research in Southwest Finland. The main activities are planning& implementation of development projects, further education & expertise services for food econolmy &aquatic systems. The work of the aquatic division is focused on improving the water quality &ecological status of local aq. systems together with local actors, maintaining ecological research & informing & educating partners.
The Institution is intersted in new ways of controlling winter season high discharges and nutrient load to aquatic systems. More information available on request from: www.pyhajarvi-instituutti.fi and via e-mail anna.paloheimo@pji.fi and anne-mari.ventela@pji.fi
