Straw skills to South Western part of Finland

Exchange of experiences about the use of straw between the different regions. To define the costs of using straw, as an alternative material for heating and construction. To construct a building using straw as a material.

Straw is still very scarcely used material in Finland, all thought elsewhere in Europe it’s used very commonly for heating and also at constructing buildings. Straw however has a great potential in South Western part of Finland. The Projects main objective is to promote use of straw as a source of energy in countryside and as a material in rural building construction. In addition, the project aims to launch entrepreneurship to enhance the use of straw.

The aim is to • Build a straw building as a result of this project • Collection and documentation of additional data, such as the model of producing local heating by the means of burning straw. • Promote the establishing of 3-5 straw heated units to projects operation area • Reducing the use of fossil fuels
