Description of Area

LAG Kostenets falls within the administrative boundaries of the municipality of Kostenets. The municipality is located in Sofia district and includes nine settlements. It is surrounded by two mountains: the Rila Mountain range and Ihtimanska Sredna Gora mountain. The area is favorable for development of agriculture, growing berry fruits, fruit trees and livestock breeding. The municipality is rich in natural, cultural and historical resources. Part of Rila National Park and Ibar Nature Reserve as well as numerous old churches and archaeological sites are among the specific features of LAG Kostenets 2010. The area offers great opportunities for tourism and sport.
