Background

Stakeholders have a low awareness and understanding of planning and using efficiently financial resources. Consequently, there is a lack of understanding of certain concepts, such as synergy, cash flow, savings and accurate evaluation of financial information. The NGO "CPK Levoča" decided to implement this project to raise the awareness of stakeholders and enhance the entrepreneurial skills of local people.

Objective

The project aimed to increase and improve information flows to ensure the sustainable socio-economic development of the region. It focused on increasing the number of well-informed active participants and the knowledge and awareness levels of development stakeholders. Another objective was to show the participants the area's potentials.

Main activities

Three blocks of information activities were organised in order to: i) train community representatives on the importance and preparation of strategic documents and their application; ii) assist beneficiaries on the planning and management of the territory with particular attention to sustainable development; and iii) provide information to beneficiaries and share knowledge and experiences on the establishment and functioning of partnerships.

Results & Benefits

The main results of the projects were: i) enhanced managerial skills of specific target groups in thematic areas; ii) improved relations between key stakeholders; iii) new innovative ways to use local resources; iv) better use of new information tools - open forum, focus groups, brainstorming, problem analysis, collaborative work, participatory methods and SWOT analysis -; v) greater involvement of rural community; vi) stronger relationship between theory and practice.

Lessons learnt

Some participants did not attend the entire two-day information workshops. Some were present during the theoretical part, others during the practical part, causing inconsistency in the understanding of some issues and the actions that needed to be implemented.
