EAFRD support was used to improve the competitiveness of a dairy processing unit in Cyprus through a business expansion operation that involved the construction of new dedicated facilities and the installation of fully automated processing systems.

Mr Stelios Stylianou, is the founder of the milk processing industry “Zita LTD". After his studies on milk processing in Greece he returned to Cyprus to work at the local industries. However, the existing dairy plants were mostly family businesses and there were no opportunities for further development. After acquiring the necessary expertise and experience by working in a major dairy company in Greece, he decided to build a small independent dairy plant in Paphos, Cyprus in 1986.

In 2004 the unit was renovated and in the period 2008-2010 it was expanded with the construction of new buildings, which were equipped with modern milk processing systems. The project aimed to achieve production of high quality dairy products according to the European Standards, by using fully automated systems.

The project activities included the construction of new buildings for the expansion of the dairy plant and procurement and installation of modern milk processing systems.

With this project the company increased the productivity of the unit, became fully compliant with the highest quality standards (implementation of HACCP and other systems) and ensured full compliance with the laws for dairy production, through the complete mechanisation of the production process, while it reduced the number of workers required.

The implementation of various quality control systems (HACCP), the use of modern and efficient equipment, the facilitation of the works of the dairy production.
