NRN INFORMATION

The Cypriot National Rural Network

The Cypriot National Rural Network (CNRN) provides its members with training for implementing rural development and favours knowledge transfer and cooperation. The CNRN has been operational since November 2008.

The Network Support Unit of the CNRN is located within the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment which is the assigned Managing Authority (MA) responsible for the management of the Cypriot Rural Development Programmes (RDP).

The CNRN has identified a set of priorities for its work plan which include the identification, analysis and promotion of good transferable practices; network management; the organisation of exchanges of experience and know-how; the preparation of training programmes for Local Action Groups (LAGs); and the provision of technical assistance for inter-territorial and transnational cooperation.

Network Participants

The CNRN is open to anyone who wants to participate. All representatives of institutions and organisations in both the private and public sector with an interest in rural development in Cyprus can participate. The CNRN is a transparent and open area for the creativity, dialogue and collaboration of the social, public and private sectors and their institutions. The participation of members in the Network is voluntary and the stakeholders do not make contributions and are not compensated for their participation.

NRN Activities

The CNRN 2010 Action Plan’s objectives are to:

• Collect, analyse and disseminate information and know-how for the promotion of rural development;
• Define, analyse and promote good transferable practices;
• Submit proposals to the MA for implementation in future action plans;
• Ensure the effective operation of the National Rural Network;
• Organise training programmes and provide LAGs with support;
• Promote transnational and inter-territorial cooperation;
• Facilitate the implementation of proposed measures submitted by the members of the CNRN;
• Promote and publicise the Cypriot National RDP;
• Participate in the process of drafting the new RDP;
• Publicising the evaluation results for the Cypriot RDP.
