LEADER 2012_Small Free range laying hens farms. Alternative proposal for small local farms

The project aims to transfer the experience of other European farmers, in terms of laying hens in free-range system in the Romanian region of MoldoPrut. Promote a new market alternative for small and very small local farmers based on quality production and ecological thinking. Open space laying hens production is seen as a production alternative that integrates traditional farming culture, local knowledge and farmers’ integration. There is a need of cooperation with other LAGs that had promoted local products valorisation though animal welfare respectful production systems.

The project proposes the establishment of five micro-farms in the period 2012-2013, the actual minimum of 2500 hens. These five micro farms will be equipped with all technical support for high-quality laying hen production. The initiative addresses within MoldoPrut smallholder farmers with limited financial resources, but want to improve profitability and operating system for laying hens to secure additional revenues to provide productions, including free trade, according to current regulations. Marketing program (contact producer-consumer) initially focused on MOLDOPRUT LAG territory. Target beneficiaries: young farmers in the region MoldoPrut, aged between 18-40 years.

General objective: Promoting cooperation of small and very small local farms in order to increase competitiveness of farms, creation and exploitation of new products and the transition to organic farming Specific objectives: 1.Research, introduction and development of new technologies, new products, and new market systems for free range laying hens 2.modernizarea traditional activities by applying new technologies; 3. Cooperation with local schools to demonstrate results.
