Malta’s Rural Development policy is defined in its National Strategy Plan (NSP) for Rural Development and a single Rural Development Programme (RDP) covering the whole country.

Summary of rural development policy objectives

In parallel, policies aim to support human resource development through training and skills aquisition. Promotion of the sustainable use of agricultural land will be addressed through actions that target and support areas with natural handicaps, combined with measures that aim to meet environmental objectives. Quality of life in rural areas will also be improved through investments in tourism activities and restoration of the cultural heritage.
