Management of Rural Development
Rural Development policy in Latvia is a responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture. Latvia’s Rural Development policy is defined in the National Strategy Plan (NSP) for Rural Development and in a single Rural Development Programme (RDP), covering the whole country. An accredited Paying Agency is responsible for RDP payments.
Summary of rural development policy objectives
The following overall objectives were chosen in accordance with the Community Strategic Guidelines (CSG) and the National Strategy Plan:
- restructuring of Latvia's agricultural sector;
- a gradual transition from income support to activity support;
- support for local initiatives;
- ensuring improvements in the quality of life of non-agricultural economic and rural areas.
