Folk costumes in the Elbe region

The project aims to rescue and preserve regional folk traditions and cultural values. The main purpose of the project is to analyse folk costumes in the different parts of the river Elbe region and spread that knowledge in the LAG territory. Traditional clothing will be maintained by the established of one mini-museum and two other expositions of folk costumes including rental places. The project raises awareness of cultural, historical and social facts of the Elbe lowlands. It strengthens regional identity of inhabitants and increases the attractiveness for tourism by the emergence of new and interesting tourist destinations. The publicity helps to support the knowledge of traditional customs amongst the LAG population. The targeted groups are the local inhabitants id the LAG.

Traditional rural rituals and festivities created part of everyday life in the countryside. Those customs were often characteristic by specific folk costumes.

Key activities: • Processing of an Ethnographic study of folk festivals and costumes; • Revitalisation of three objects to set up a mini- museum and 2 expositions; • Establishment of 2 folk costumes rentals; • Preparation and sawing of 40 folk costumes (14 man, 6 boys and 14 ladies and 6 girls’ costumes. • 2 excursions about local and regional differences in folk costumes.
