Rural Tourism & Local Products Exchange

The project aim is to promote Mediterranean rural tourism in our area through the creation of rural itineraries, the promotion of local events, fairs, rural activities, eno-gastronomic offer and food & wine streets. We are also very interested in exchanging our wine ("Primitivo di Manduria D.O.C."), dairy and food products with those LAGs and territories with similar characteristics who wish to promote their products in our territory. Main objectives: promotion of architectural and natural heritages, eno-gastronomic offer, growth of rural tourism offering, products exchange.

Our area includes 11 municipalities whose economy is mostly based on agriculture. We produce a high-quality wine: “Primitivo di Manduria D.O.C.”, extra virgin olive oil, bakery products, dairy products (mozzarella cheese, sheep milk cheese, ricotta cheese) and fruit (figs, prickly pears, quinces, almonds, pomegranates, local apples and pears). Moreover, we also produce typical Mediterranean dishes made of local products and ingredients and local handicraft products (twig baskets, tamburines, glass paintings and decorations). Our territory is characterized by sandy beaches alternating with inter-tidal flats and rocky shores, Mediterranean maquis, sand hills, protected sites of important biodiversity interest and many farm houses where tourists can taste local products

Objectives: Development and promotion of rural areas and local economy. Establishment of a precise identity of the territory. Increase and diversify the accommodation offer,leisure activities, create facilities that meet demonstrated needs and provide community services, rural and eno-gastronomic itineraries. Foster farming tourism and pedagogic farms. Promote products exchange between LAGs and other territories.
