Agritourism and cultural tourism as a mean to promoting local production

The Haute-Vallée de l’Aude is a rural district located between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean area and consists of 149 villages and small towns. The South of the area comprises a skiing resort and is locally well-known for the production of potatoes, beef and cheese. In the North, the farming is mostly made of vineyards producing Languedoc wines and the famous “Blanquette de Limoux“ (sparkling wine). Most of the tourist activities are either cultural (Cathar castles, abbeys and other medieval sites) or based on outdoor activities (white-water sports, rock-climbing, trekking, cycling and more).
