Living Lake Islands or Living Islands, LILAIS

The main objective is to keep the island alive and develop the economical and social activities for and with the people on the Island within the existing resources. The main themes would be bio farming, natural herbs, traditional landscape and tourism/village tourism. Emphasis is put on learning and transferring know-how and good practices between the partners.

Lake Lohja Islands are located some 80 kilometers northwest of Helsinki, in the western part of the Uusimaa region. Lohjansaari (Lohja Island) is the largest, 20 square meters, of all the 120 islands belonging to this group of islands. The Islands have 500 permanent and 2 000 recreational inhabitants. Lake Lohja Islands Association has developed the area by producing a village plan and many national Leader and other development projects to get the targets in the village plan to be fulfilled. We are good in creating co-operation between permanent and “summer cottage” people and with the municipality. We have very active summer market place and various happenings. We have got a couple of new young active families to the Islands.

Suggested activities: • Three partners maximum • Exchange on know-how, experiences, methods, cultures. • Workshops. • Emphasis is put on learning and transferring know-how and good practices between the partners. After local and national development work and networking it has come time to try to become internationalized. We would like to share experiences with international partners and learn from each other´s activities, methods and organisations with hopefully a longer cooperation between the partners and develop long time cooperation on international level.

We would like to have 2 LEADER group partners having varying examples of Island economy and ensuring the quality of life of the people living on the islands.
