Context: 

In our territory there are protected areas for native grown chestnuts and plantations of farmers in the vicinity of protected areas.
Because of the specific diseases, the risk of the disappearance of the northernmost protected area in Europe is major along with the surrounding cultivated areas.
Defensive strategies for protection (diseases and pests) and offensive strategies to increase the added value of edible chestnut products are required.
For these we are looking for partners in Europe with traditions in the cultivation of edible chestnut, experienced in their protection and in the superior valorization of edible chestnuts.

Project idea summary: 

The complexity of the problem of diseases and pests of edible chestnuts and the increase in the added value of edible chestnuts requires multiple and high levels of expertise, difficult to find in the North West of Romania, where edible chestnut is a rarity in the cultivated form and usually in the natural protected area Baia Mare_Tautii Magheraus_Baia Sprie and Ileanda. The idea of ​​the project is to find solutions for stopping the decline of production due to diseases and solutions for superior exploitation of chestnuts on farms in the territory of 3 LAGs confronted with the same problem.
