Social inclusion hones in on the risk of poverty or social exclusion, one of the five headline targets of the Europe 2020 strategy. At the same time, it contributes to the objective Leave no one behind – Just Transition of the EU Green Deal by targeting those vulnerable groups that are more exposed to the harmful effects of climate change and environmental degradation.

There are different EU funding tools, operational programmes and initiatives in place that can contribute to achieving social inclusion objectives:

  • Rural Development Programmes (RDPs), especially under its Priority 6 – Promoting social inclusion, poverty reduction and economic development in rural areas. Read more at the dedicated ENRD webpages:
  • EU's Cohesion policy, enabling to reduce disparities between the various regions and the backwardness of the least-favoured regions through funding instruments (i.e. European Regional Development Fund, European Social Fund, Cohesion Fund).
