Danish Agriculture Advisory Services / Knowledge Centre For Agriculture (DAAS)

Institution overall role: The Danish Agricultural Advisory Service (DAAS) is owned and managed by farmers, via their membership of farming organisations. The Knowledge Centre for Agriculture is part of DAAS, being a partnership made up of 31 local advisory centres and a knowledge centre. The Knowledge Centre acts as a development and support unit for DAAS. A two-level advisory system, it is both owned and used by Danish farmers. The partnership employs approximately 3,500 professionals.

Role and priorities/objectives in knowledge transfer & innovation: The Knowledge Centre is the main provider of professional knowledge for the agricultural professions. In farming, acquisition and implementation of new knowledge and new techniques make the difference between success and failure. The Knowledge Centre’s role is to process and convey the latest knowledge from research institutions, companies and educational institutions and others to the client base.

The clients are primarily the 31 advisory centres in the partnership Danish Agricultural Advisory Service, but also include food businesses, authorities and agricultural colleges. In a few areas, farmers and other agriculturalists are also direct clients.

Research & innovation links: The Knowledge Centre takes results from research and process and convey them, so the advisers of the advisory centres and thus eventually the farmer can use the results in farming and farm business operations. The Centre develops and maintains IT tools for management and support for decision-making, and carries out national as well as transnational projects. Trials and studies are conducted – alone or in co-operation with other institutions and knowledge companies. Short and long training courses are developed and delivered for employees at all levels of the Danish Agricultural Advisory Service.
