On 16 September 2012, Dacian Cioloş, Member of the European Commission in charge of Agriculture and Rural Development, visited the City Farm event organised by DG AGRI on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). In this short video he puts forward the main trends of the future Common Agricultural Policy, which has at its core "diversity, good management of natural resources, health, and young farmers who can discuss the future of CAP".

The "Images of Rural Europe" photo competition was organised by the European Network for Rural Development, in collaboration with National Rural Networks & Local Action Groups across Europe. The objective was to celebrate the beauty and diversity of rural Europe today. The response to Images of Rural Europe was overwhelming: More than 1 700 photos were submitted through Local Action Groups, who encouraged both amateur and professional photographers across the EU to share images that encapsulate life in their communities. Children in rural areas can be isolated from cultural activities and international interaction. The Zethoven project changed that: in 2009, LAGs from the Pays Sud Charente region in France and Trancoso, Portugal, set up a LEADER transnational cooperation (TNC) project to create an international children's choir. Through auditions, rehearsals, a CD production and a series of concerts, the projects allowed the French and Portuguese primary school children involved to experience music and a tangible sense of 'Europe'.

Thanks to EAFRD funding, Jim Byrne has been able to start producing 'Happy Days', an artisanal ice cream made in Cork, Ireland. "LEADER forward" highlights the essence of LEADER, features testimonials from the field and calls for policy makers and other stakeholders to work together on the implementation of LEADER projects from the bottom up.

Boosting rural areas is a primary mission for the province of Flevoland. Thanks in part to European support from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, the people of Flevoland are able to realise creative ideas and plans that increase the quality of life in rural areas. The documentary follows three LEADER projects from application to completion, and focuses on the experiences of the individuals dedicating themselves to the countryside.
