Context:

The LAG of Cotentin is a rural peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and the English Channel. Its new administrative structure (2017) includes a territory of 200 000 residents with an urban area of 100 000 residents. The exchange between the rural and urban areas is crucial and the diversity of the agricultural and seafood production is important. Therefore, the issue of developing of a sustainable local food project is essential.
The local political commitment is significant and the LAG has already worked on the subject of short food supply chains and collective catering.

Project idea summary:

In response to sustainable development issues, French local communities are encouraging a global and inclusive reflexion about alimentation, the link between rural and urban areas, or the local food supply chains. These exchanges aim to create new and responsible ways of producing, consuming and exchanging products which can be more respectful of human being and environment.
The project can be developed in two stages. We propose a first stage which will allow to share knowledge and exchange about different approaches between participants, and a second stage intended to communicate and sensitize the local communities throughout the European area.

Objectives:

The main objective of this project is to exchange about sustainable local food projects which aim to develop innovative ways of producing, consuming and exchanging food products:
- exchange of innovative practices between territories.
- communication and awareness campaigns around local sustainable alimentation and agriculture.
