Context:

Millions of tourists are visiting every year our Region praised for its landscape (the Loire Valley as a UNESCO World Heritage Site), its cycle paths (the “Châteaux à vélo”), its gastronomy and lifestyle (local products, wine-growing…), its castles and gardens. The LAG Val de Loire – Chambord is known as the Pays des Châteaux, gathering in one area the Royal Castle of Blois, the Castles of Chambord, Cheverny and Chaumont.
2019 will mark the 500th anniversary of the Renaissance. Considered as the birthplace of the French Renaissance, the Loire Valley Region is highly marked by that stimulating period of history.
The Centre Val de Loire Region launched for 2019 a call for proposals to network all the stakeholders – inhabitants, tourists, municipalities, associations… - at a regional scale, and promote the Renaissance and its heritage beyond our borders. The LAG Val de Loire Chambord wants to be a part of that ambitious program cooperating with some Italian region to highlight the Italian influence on the French Renaissance in the Loire Valley.

Project idea summary:

2019 will be a year of celebration for the Loire Valley region. It marks at the same time the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci at Amboise, the start of the construction of the Château de Chambord and the birth of Catherine de Medici in Florence. The Loire Valley region is highly marked by that very rich period of history and gained its reputation from the Kings and Queens that settled along the Loire many centuries ago.
In order to promote this cultural and historical heritage which go through all Europe, the LAG Val de Loire Chambord would like to initiate a cooperation with some other European region that share the same goals and interest for that period, especially in Italy, birthplace of the Renaissance.

Objectives:

The cooperation may consider the major themes of the Renaissance: heritage, arts and culture, gardens, science revolutions, architecture, gastronomy, etc.…
The project can be in the form of an event (exhibition, meeting, workshops, performances, historical reconstruction…), an experiment, mutual sharing on the heritage of the Renaissance in Italy and France, and how that period can enlighten our way of living and thinking today.
The main purposes are:
- scientific: spread knowledge, use new technologies to preserve, rehabilitate and promote this heritage
- cultural: make people aware of the wealth of this heritage, involve inhabitants in the local development strategy, create a dialogue between these two periods
- touristic: promote the natural and cultural resources and develop the attractiveness of the Region
- environmental: promote the local resources and encourage good practices to reduce our impact on the environment
