NRN INFORMATION

The Lithuanian National Rural Network

The Lithuanian NRN plays key roles in networking information about good practices in rural development and facilitating exchange opportunities. It is also involved in connecting rural development processes between authorities and organisations from public, private and other sectors to achieve sustainable rural and agricultural development. The Lithuanian NRN has been operational since the end of 2008.

It is established within the Managing Authority (MA) of the Lithuanian Rural Development Programme (RDP), namely the Ministry of Agriculture.

The main goal of the NRN is to facilitate the implementation of the RDP and to promote cohesive rural and agricultural development throughout the country.

The main objectives of the NRN are to organise different stakeholders for common activities; to facilitate dialogue and promote networking amongst different stakeholders; to support stakeholder cooperation, to enhance RDP implementation, to stimulate the exchange and dissemination of information; and to promote transnational cooperation (TNC).

Network Participants

Membership of the network is voluntary, open, and formal. Membership of the NRN includes public legal bodies, who are either involved in RDP implementation or other rural development and agricultural policy; Local Action Groups (LAGs); rural community representatives; non-governmental organisations (NGOs) representing the interests of a wide range of stakeholders; state and municipal institutions and organisations; and scientific and advisory institutions and organisations. Private legal bodies and individual persons cannot become members.
