Management of Rural Development
The Rural Development Strategic policy in Lithuania is the responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture and especially of the Rural Development Department, a self-dependent structural unit of the Ministry. A National Strategic Plan for Lithuania has been prepared by the Lithuanian Ministry of Agriculture. This provides the overall policy framework for rural development, complemented by one Rural Development Programme covering the whole of the country. The competent authorities for the implementation of the programme are the Ministry of Agriculture as Managing Authority and the National Paying Agency.
Summary of rural development policy objectives
The RDP Strategic Objectives are derived from the National Strategic Plan for Rural development of Lithuania. The main goals are:
- To improve the competitiveness of the agricultural and forestry sectors;
- To improve the environment and the countryside;
- To improve the quality of life in rural areas and encouraging diversification of economic activity.
