Management of Rural Development
Rural development policy in Denmark is under the responsibility of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. The National Strategy Plan (NSP) for Denmark provides the overall policy framework for rural development in the country. A single Rural Development Programme (RDP) identifies specific actions and measures to address particular rural needs and support for the period 2007-2013.
Summary of rural development policy objectives
The four main rural development policy objectives as outlined by the RDP for Denmark are:
- To promote more entrepreneurs and local jobs in rural areas;
- Greater competitiveness in the agricultural, food and forestry sectors;
- Varied landscapes, rich nature and a clean environment;
- Attractive living conditions in rural areas, which contribute to strong cohesiveness between the countryside and town.
