The main focus of this project was to create a multi-functional meeting centre and accomodation place for youth in an area where young people of Urk would otherwise hang about other locations and come into contact with drink and drugs.

Two youth clubs on Urk needed a new location for their activities. They discovered each other and together went in search of a communal space, which would also be open to other youth clubs.

1) Building a multi-functional youth centre where youth clubs and other clubs can meet and carry out their activities; 2) Providing accommodation and activities for the young people of Urk, who would otherwise hang about other locations and come into contact with drink and drugs.

The main activities within the project concerned renovating and refurbishing a former discotheque to create a multi-functional youth centre. The youth were engaged in the project on a volunteer basis.

A new multi-functional youth centre in Urk was created, where young people (and people from other clubs) can gather together. The center offered youth facilities to manage their leisure time in a positive manner, thus preventing them from being exposed to deviant behaviour such as alcoholism.

The young people who were responsible for the project have found this a very intensive experience. A lot was expected of them: not only the execution of the project itself, but also meeting the many requirements for EU funding and the vast amount of administrative paper work involved in the process.
