Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry Slovenia (KGZS)

Institution overall role: The Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry Slovenia is:

1. an advocacy organisation for farmers and foresters (nationally and internationally);
2. an advisory, training and education service provider, and
3. responsible for some areas of applied research for the sector in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food and other ministries.

Role and priorities/objectives in knowledge transfer & innovation: Slovenia’s priorities for development of the agriculture, forestry and food sector are based three pillars:

• economically efficient and competitive
• social responsibility
• environmentally friendly and sustainable

In addition to the primary tasks of the production of safe and quality food for ensuring food security, agriculture and forestry provide a number of other functions reflected in research, education and advisory support services contributed to by the Chamber, including:

• conservation of natural resources for future generations,
• biodiversity conservation,
• preservation of the typical cultural landscape,
• rational management of water and other natural resources
