Institute of Horticulture (INHORT)

Institution overall role: A research body, the Institute of Horticulture was reconstituted in 2011 and consists of sections on fruits, vegetables, ornamental plants and apiculture.

Role and priorities/objectives in knowledge transfer & innovation: INHORT’s research programme covers all issues related to the production of horticulture, ranging from research on the biological bases of fruit, vegetables and ornamental plants through biotechnology, genetics and breeding, nursery and protection of plant genetic resources, plus processing and preservation of fruits and vegetables, food safety, economics and marketing.

INHORT also plays an important role as a training centre. It organizes, courses, summer schools and postgraduate studies for researchers, producers and staff advisory centres and can confer doctorates.

The Institute publishes three English-language magazines, "Journal of Fruit and Ornamental Plant Research", "Journal of Apicultural Science" and "Vegetable Crops Research Bulletin," and two Polish-language science magazines "Scientific Papers of the Institute of Horticulture and Floriculture" and "New Vegetable."
