ADAS (Independent consultancy)

Institution overall role: Previously a government advisory service, ADAS was privatised in 1997 and now provides independent, science-based environmental and rural consultancy and contracting services to a diverse range of organisations in the private and public sectors, throughout the UK and internationally. Core disciplines focus on the interaction of man with the living, growing environment and ensuring its future sustainability, together with a range of rural development and agricultural services. ADAS has more than 700 environmental and rural development specialists, operating from a network of offices and research sites throughout the UK.

Role and priorities/objectives in knowledge transfer & innovation:
The ADAS services draw on findings from innovative research and are structured around four areas of business support and advice:

  • Environment
  • Sustainable crop management
  • Animal health and welfare
  • Waste contracting
