    Summary

A travelling roadshow, using a cheerfully coloured van, was chosen by the Finnish National Rural Network as part of a campaign to promote life in rural areas and in particular the opportunities provided within the rural development programme for mainland Finland. Taking place from June to September 2011, the stops were organised by Local Action Groups and supported by the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment. They coincided with large public events, such as rural fairs, seminars and music festivals), and all municipalities of the LAGs were visited.

    Assessment of effectiveness

From self assessment monitoring, direct impact was achieved through: generating new project and business grant
applications; visibility for the Mainland Finland Rural Development Programme through articles in the press and regional radio reports. More indirect impact is expected from the new contacts made between the roadshow and interested parties which is expected to lead to new grant applications.
