Summary
The Ministry of Agriculture of Lithuania organizes annually an international exhibition showcasing the agriculture and food sectors. AgroBalt is the largest and the most significant event for agriculture and food in the Baltic Region. The exhibition focuses on business, consumption and policies. It presents new opportunities and technologies available to small and medium-sized businesses, alternative agricultural activities, etc. The event gathers a vast range of guests, including foreign Ministers of Agriculture, European Commission officials, ambassadors, the country's agriculture and food companies and organizations.

Main purpose
The main purpose of AgroBalt is to encourage the participation of Lithuanian rural and agricultural development stakeholders in the national and international processes of agricultural development and to promote business development by providing safe and healthy food to consumers. Furthermore, the event aims at promoting small and medium-size business within rural areas, at establishing contacts between regional companies operating in the agricultural and food industries and foreign countries, and at presenting the challenges facing EU rural development policies.

Technical information
Around 309 participants took part in the last exhibition. Organisers promoted the event by an award contest (e.g. award for food products). Roundtable discussions on "small farming prospects and challenges of globalization” were held, attended by national and international officials responsible for agriculture and rural development.

Assessment of effectiveness
The fair was very successful and beneficial not only for stakeholders directly involved in rural development, agriculture and food industry but also regarding making new contacts, exchanging of experience and knowledge on new technologies & new markets. It was also popular among a broader public because this fair attracted 28 000 visitors which is considered as a big success.
