Summary
LAG training was organised by the NRDN SR in assocation with the Ministry for Agriculture and the Paying Agency on 6-9 September, 2011 in Donovaly, Banská Bystrica region, Central Slovakia. The training aimed to build the capacity of LAGs and was divided into five thematic blocks (including presentations and discussions) on the following: Essentials, annexes, formal control of applications etc. for the application forms of non-repayable financial contributions (projects) from RDP SR 2007-2013 re: Axis 3 measures implemented through Axis 4; Measures 3.4.1 and 3.4.2 implemented through Axis 4; Measure 3.1, 3.3 and 3.2 - implemented through Axis 4; Measure 4.3 - operation of the LAG; The guidance procedure of final beneficiaries (eligible applicants) through the acquisition of goods, works and services.

Main purpose
The aim of the training was to enhance capacity building amongst LAG managers themselves – in particular in relation to the successful evaluation of applications for financial contributions. The ability to correctly evaluate applications and follow established procedures in terms of 'best practice' is considered vitally important for the effective administration of funds.

Assessment of effectiveness
The training provided allowed LAGs to understand what is required in terms of assessing the benefits of projects and how these fit with the local development strategy - as well as 'best practice' in terms of procedures and administration. In addition, the training allowed LAG managers to directly engage with Paying Agency officials and Managing Authority representatives – receiving advice and guidance - thereby improving the quality of the LAGs’ work.
