Summary
The information campaign developed and implemented by ADERT Transilvania Foundation aimed to create information groups, small local information networks, to package lots of information in usable form for its beneficiaries and to improve locals’ capacity to implement projects.
Several tailored publications (e.g. a basic farm register, a calendar including key dates for farming and application date) that farmers needed and used were produced and distributed. Trainings in general management was delivered to small farmer associations and also training in delivering joint actions. Farmers received support for improving milk hygiene and in negotiation of the milk price with processors. Seen by the Jury of the contest as ‘An inspirational campaign, based on a deep analysis and understanding of the needs of small-scale farmers in Transylvania’, it had a very concrete impact: increased local incomes of over €2m per year in the area.

The information campaign consisted in different informational packages delivered to farmers and also through associations:
• guides for building milk collection and food processing plants offering minimum conditions for authorization, with plans freely available in hard copy or internet for use by any community group in Romania;
• materials to help farmers meet implementation conditions, such as Farmers Diary and Farm Record Sheets;
• farm visits and meetings to help farmers gain access to measures;
During the campaign, a specific feature was the use of mobile telephone SMS to inform producers of key information.
