The 8th NRNs’ meeting discussed new networking tools and methods to support the implementation of the Cork 2.0 Declaration in Rural Development Programme (RDP) delivery. The meeting used a methodology called ‘Innovation Camp’ to develop new ideas for the rural networks to achieve their goals in practice.
Participants worked in six teams on four specific themes identified from previous discussions, online submissions and the Cork 2.0 Action Plan: innovation; communications; simplification; and ‘rural proofing’. Two nominated coordinators from the NRNs led their team through a series of work stages, including initial brainstorming, selection of wild ideas, discussing implementation challenges and practical planning. At the end, the teams pitched their ideas to a jury who gave feedback and awarded prizes.
The format strongly encouraged team working between NRNs and with the ENRD Contact Point, and delivered some exciting ideas and some clear concepts to take forward the work of the rural networks. The variety of suggestions included developing rural apps, improving the focus on young people, fostering and celebrating innovation, encouraging the stealing of ideas from each other, actively taking ‘rural proofing’ across the networks and putting simplification into action.
