Expansion of Fodder Production Facility to Meet Growing Market Demand
Summary
The project provided investment to expand a Polish fodder production facility & establish an effective marketing, sales & distribution system, better able to respond to increased demand for fodder from local livestock farmers.
Background
Local demand for fodder is steadily increasing in the Mazovia region, as the livestock sector expands. The CEDROB fodder production company recognised this opportunity. The management decided to develop a business plan to expand its production facilities, upgrade the technology at the plant and improve its distribution services. For the plan to be implemented, the company also needed to attract additional investment and expertise.
Objective
To project objectives included: development of an expanded fodder production facility and establishment of an effective distribution system to respond to increased local demand for fodder.
Main activities
The main activities included: development and approval of a viable business plan to expand production facilities, upgrade the technology at the plant and purchase new transport equipment to enhance distribution services; procurement and installation of new equipment; training of the staff in the use of new equipment; development of new fodder distribution service; promotion of the expanded production to local farm businesses.
Results & Benefits
Results included: Expanded fodder drying & storage facilities; new fodder dispatch system; improved fodder packing system; introduction of a new assembly line for liquid additives; enhanced facilities for fodder grinding & granulation; development of new distribution fleet to provide new marketing, sales and delivery opportunities. Overall the project allowed the company to respond to the expanded local demand for fodder, improving competitiveness, profitability and creating new jobs locally.
Lessons learnt
Carefully planning and monitoring at all stages in the investment is needed.
