Priorities and activities

Rurality-Environment-Development (RED) has two types of activities

  • An associative function: RED animates a European rural development network and works in favour of an ambitious European rural development policy, differentiated and complementary from agricultural policy. RED promotes a balanced development between strongly interrelated urban and rural poles, in order to ensure territorial cohesion in Europe. RED prioritizes a participatory approach integrating in a specified territory the economic, social, cultural and environmental concepts.

RED also coordinates European platforms like the European Countryside Movement and gives support to members’ activities at international level. It animates the website www.ruraleurope.org, and publishes thematic dossiers.

  • An operational function, with the support of the Interregional Workshops (ATEAR): RED organizes regular international conferences or exhibitions and cooperates in researches on the different aspects of rural development: country planning, landscape, territorial development in its economic, social, cultural and environmental components, European rural policy.
