Berlin, Germany - 17-26 January 2013

Brief summary

In January 2013 over 400 000 visitors made their way through Berlin's snow-covered streets for the 78th edition of the International Green Week (‘Grüne Woche’). With 1 630 exhibitors from 67 countries, the largest fair for agriculture, food and horticulture was more international than ever. Not surprisingly Ilse Aigner, German minister for agriculture, who participated in the event called the opening ministerial conference with 80 agricultural ministries from every continent the, “Davos of agriculture.”

The ENRD Contact Point representatives participated in this year’s event alongside DG AGRI representatives. The ENRD was in charge of organising presentations given by project holders who have benefitted from EAFRD funding. Moreover, ENRD Contact Point representatives participated in the ‘forum for the future of rural development’, organised by the German Ministry for Agriculture, which brought together farmers, regional administrators, NGOs, Local Action Groups and many other rural development practitioners and stakeholders.

Amongst the project holders making an impact at the event were ‘Savour the Flavours’, a Dumfries & Galloway's regional food group which promoted Scotland’s wide-ranging activities in food and drink networking. Liz Ramsay, Project Manager with Savour the Flavours explained that, "we are absolutely delighted to be attending such a prestigious event and to be asked to represent Scotland's LEADER programme in this way is quite an honour.” The audience was certainly impressed by the lively presentations, music, tasty products and the enthusiasm of project holders for their work in rural areas.
