ENRD at the Cooperation around the Baltic Sea: European Union Strategy for the
Baltic Sea Region and Rural Development meeting

13 November 2013, Vilnius, Lithuania

Summary

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania invited the ENRD CP to participate in the meeting organised in the context of the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU.

The meeting focused on the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. The aim of the meeting was to discuss how to effectively combine national Rural Development Programmes (RDPs) for the period 2014-2020 with the main aims and tasks of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region and make a recommendation about how to deal with this challenge in the new programming period.

Main findings

The meeting contributed to the implementation of the common action to “enhance common effects of Rural Development Programmes,” as set out in the European Union’s Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR)

The plenary presentation outlined the framework for actions in the 2014-2020 programming period and summarised the EUSBSR-related achievements in the 2007-2013 programming period.
The speakers emphasised the potential higher added value of macro-regional projects and cooperation projects, the need to enhance the combined effects of RDPs and of taking action and using the opportunities provided by CSF funds.

A workshop on the role of National Rural Networks in the 2014-2020 focused on discussing the future tasks of NRNs and identifying areas of cooperation in the Baltic Sea region for the period. The ENRD supported the workshop with a presentation on the current achievements and future tasks of ENRD and NRNs.
