    The Facebook page of the Bulgarian Rural Network is intended to supplement & promote the communication tools used by the NRN by reaching further part of the rural development audience & providing them with opportunity to discuss various topics & issues. The page is regularly updated with various types of posts: be it news & analyses addressing the rural development in the current & next programming periods, calls for project proposals on RDP measures, upcoming & passed events at national & international level, funny stories, etc. A special focus is put on the events held by the NRN & all of them come with a photo album & story about the lessons learnt. It is also used for further dissemination of information on interesting projects & good practices as well as for engaging the audience in different contests, e.g. the quest for the NRN’s motto during summer 2013. The Facebook page is a useful tool to understand the information needs of the audience and its opinions.

    The Facebook page targets a wide range of rural development stakeholders, the broader public and the younger audience as well. The purpose is to supplement the webpage as a communication tool by providing information in interesting and engaging way with a possibility of immediate feedback. It is a helpful tool to understand the information needs of the audience, its preferences, topics of interest & last but not least, its opinion on various matters.

    Assessment of effectiveness

    The Support Unit of the NRN is using the Facebook “See Insights” opportunity for obtaining statistical data to assess indicators, such as the number of posts, likes per posts, people who saw each post, etc. On this basis, the Support Unit is calculating the average number of people who have read all posts. For the year 2013, the Facebook audience has grown to 399 people (people who have liked the page), there have been 1294 posts read by 85523 people (the indicator “Lifetime Post Total Reach”).
