Rural4Youth Summer Schools
Education, Mountain area, Rural economy
Within the “Ruraland” campaign, a specific project was carried out to create a link between education (universities) and rural development. A 7-day summer school was organised involving students from several Italian universities, with the aim of complementing academic knowledge with specific training focused on rural development issues. The summer school took place in a rural area of Tuscany. This area, called the “Garfagnana” mountain district, was chosen because of its capacity to provide best practices and successful experiences about rural development. The summer school included farm and field visits, meetings with relevant stakeholders, working groups and debate forums guided by NRN facilitators. The initiative also created an opportunity to bring together students with different backgrounds, geographic ranges and disciplinary fields and to stimulate high level professional debate among them.
& RDP Region(s)
The summer school provided information and specific field experiences for students, in order to raise awareness of the opportunities for new forms of employment and professional careers in the rural world.
Students were asked to analyse specific case-studies and to produce a short-documentary (3 minutes) including interviews with the stakeholders involved and relevant elements of the experience.
