This factsheet explores how bottom-up territorial approaches such as LEADER/CLLD can play an important role in dealing with issues of poverty and social inclusion in rural areas. LEADER/CLLD can help to identify specific problems at the local level, address these through tailor-made measures, and bring together the various actors to provide more effective solutions.

This factsheet explores the role of (policy) networks in supporting social inclusion in rural areas. One of the main added values of networks is that they bring together various stakeholders around common issues of interest and facilitate exchanges of experience and views among them. Through these activities, networks can help to identify and overcome common problems and challenges, and ultimately contribute to the improvement of policy implementation.

This factsheet explores ways of supporting the  inclusion of migrants and refugees in rural areas. Economic migrants have become one of the cornerstones of today’s rural economies. Over the past years, economic migrants have been joined by over one million asylum seekers from war-torn countries.
While the presence of migrants and asylum seekers is a major challenge in many rural areas for both policy-makers and local inhabitants, it also offers new opportunities for rural development.
