Hierbei werden einige besondere Möglichkeiten für die ländlichen Gebiete aufgezeigt, die sich aus dem Übergang zu einer grünen Wirtschaft, der unter anderem durch den Übergang zu einer kohlenstoffarmen Wirtschaft und durch eine nachhaltigere Land- und Forstwirtschaft erreicht werden kann, ergeben. Des Weiteren werden praktische Aspekte von Projekten zur Erreichung einer grünen Wirtschaft sowie die Frage betrachtet, wie Kooperationen zu besseren Ergebnissen beitragen können.

Auch wird untersucht, wie die Entwicklungsprogramme für den ländlichen Raum (EPLR) Bemühungen in diesen Gebieten am besten unterstützen können.

The reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) sees innovation as a key driver of sustainable agriculture and rural development.

Rural Europe plays a central role in the provision of environmental services such as preserving biodiversity, contributing to climate regulation—by reducing emissions and sequestering carbon, protecting water quality and availability, preserving soil functionality and air quality, reinforcing resilience to flooding and/or fire and maintaining landscape values.
