This is the main report of the ninth meeting of the ENRD Thematic Group (TG) on 'Smart Villages'.

The meeting combined a visit to two of the villages participating in the Smartest Villages competitionin Finland, presentations and group discussions.

This is the main report of the second meeting of the ENRD Thematic Group (TG) on 'Mainstreaming the Bioeconomy'. It summarises the discussion on territorial and local approaches to developing bioeconomy in rural areas, and on how to combine different funding instruments to support rural bioeconomy initiatives.

This briefing document offers some preliminary orientations on how to support Smart Villages – both in the current programming period (2014-2020) and, more significantly, in the framework of the post-2020 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) programming period.

This comparative case study on 'Revitalising rural areas through digitisation' is based on three rural digital hub examples: Cocotte Numérique (France), #hellodigital (Scotland) and the Ludgate Hub (Ireland). 
The study explores how to most effectively set up and run rural digital hubs, promoting the use of digital technology in rural areas. It has a strong focus on practical implementation aspects (including first steps, main triggers, initiators, financial and human resources, challenges and lessons learnt).

This thematic briefing is focusing on rural mobility, aiming to highlight factors and conditions to be taken into account when designing the future policies to ensure that Smart Villages strategies enable rural communities to design and test mobility solutions.

The document is targeted at Managing Authorities and other institutional actors involved in preparing the future CAP Strategic Plans as well as other policies for rural development.

It overviews how local government officials and residents from both types of area come together to negotiate win-win partnerships and joint activities in areas of common concern such as employment, the environment and local services. The study considers the governance and funding implications of such partnerships.
