Mobilising rural awareness in Finland about sustainable transport opportunities
 

Rural areas are commonly affected by depopulation and ageing populations. This project promoted healthy and active ageing in rural areas, by offering physical and social activities for the elderly.

The Digitally Visiting project has pioneered digital skill development in Central Finland. The project has demonstrated that there is a large need for local digital support to develop residents’ digital skills, especially in remote rural regions. The project encouraged and guided rural residents to use electronic services and so has contributed to making rural living in Central Finland more appealing.
 

Reintroducing the traditional practice of controlled forest burning, as means to promote biodiversity and create new business opportunities in the forestry sector.

This project is an example of how villagers can get access to high-speed broadband networks even in remote and sparsely populated rural areas. It is the winning initiative of the 2019 Rural Inspiration Awards in the 'Rural Revitalisation' category.

A small, remote rural community of around 1 300 inhabitants in Finland launched a Digi-Hub for the elderly.

A study financed by the Finnish RDP aimed to find new digital solutions for making reindeer husbandry a more efficient and profitable business.

A collaborative system of precision viticulture enabling farmers to have online real time information about the health of the vineyards and make more targeted phytosanitary interventions.

In Sweden, local non-profit associations, encouraged and supported by the public sector, are carrying out the building of broadband infrastructure in the countryside.

A Finnish NGO used EAFRD funds to develop a network of nature-based service providers  and activities to support their development such as study trips and work groups.
