The accelerated process of depopulation is one of the main challenges facing large areas of rural Spain. In the most critical areas, population densities have fallen to just five inhabitants per km².
The report describes the Nuevos Senderos (New Paths) programme of the Cepaim Foundation. It is a example of how to successfully integrate a migrant population into a rural area. It shows that if managed correctly, the immigrant population can be one of the solutions to deal with the challenge of rural depopulation.
